A Videogame Intervention for Tobacco Product Use Prevention in Adolescents

Purpose: Worldwide, current adolescent use of any tobacco product ranges from 3% to 63% and nearly 25% of those who smoke had their first cigarette before the age of 10. More than 80% of adult smokers begin smoking before age 18 and findings suggest that if individuals remain non-smokers throughout adolescence they will likely never start using tobacco. The highest rates of adolescent smoking occur during the transition from middle school to high school. During this same period, the majority of adolescents are engaged in playing videogames.
