[Perspectives] Pauline Cafferkey: dedicated nurse and reluctant Ebola hero

Pauline Cafferkey became a nurse because she had wanted to travel the world and help people from a young age. When the UK, in 2014, committed to send health-care volunteers to work with Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, her family and friends correctly assumed she would go. It was an altruistic decision that nearly cost her life and has damaged her health, but she does not regret it. “Oh no—never”, she says.
